How it works

"Let's Get Sorted" is the name of Craigavon Borough Council's domestic refuse collection and recycling service. The service provides every house in the Borough with at least two bins: a blue bin, for general household waste and a green bin, for materials that we send for recycling. Some households, however, also have a brown bin for garden waste, food waste and cold ashes.

What can I put in my green bin?

You can put the following into your green bin : cardboard ; rinsed food and drinks cans ; newspapers and magazines ; and plastic bottles.

Please do not put plastic bags, glass or leftover food into your green bin.

What can I put in my brown bin?

You can put the following into your brown bin: plate scrapings, including meat and bones, fruit and vegetable peelings, garden waste, bread, teabags, cold ashes and egg shells.

Please do not put plastic bags, bin liners, gravel, stones, soil and cat or dog waste in your brown bin.

Alternate weekly collections

Your blue bin is collected one week and your green bin the next. To help you remember which bin to put out each week you can log onto our collection calendar by clicking here.

Recycle Man Those households with a brown bin will also have this bin collected once a fortnight. In some areas brown bins are collected the same week as the blue bins and in other areas the same week as the green bins - however not necessarily on the same day. Please call us on 028 3833 9031 or on the freephone helpline on 0800 3898203 if you need advice on when to put out your bins. Bins should be put out for collection by 8am.

What will happen if I put the wrong materials into my green or brown bin?

Recycling Inspectors will be inspecting green and brown bins and if they contain the wrong materials they will be sealed and not collected.

If this happens please remove all unsuitable items and put your bin out on your next scheduled green/brown collection day.

Why is it so important that I do not put the wrong materials into my green or brown bin?

All material collected in the green and brown bins will be taken away for sorting and recycling. If we deliver the wrong materials to the recycling facility, Council may have to pay high penalties which will have be found through rate payers money.

Under European Legislation local authorities must recycle 45% of household waste by 2020.
